A Horrendous 2014 So Far !

On New Year's Eve (Tuesday), we took Trey to the doctor because he had a cough.  We were given breathing treatments to do with him at home which he took like a champ.  On Wednesday and Thursday Trey started having fevers which I was rarely unable to get below 101.  So that was frustrating but the dr. said it was ok and that the fever will come and go.  On Friday we woke up to 8 inches of snow and a baby who was having trouble breathing.  We brought Trey in to the dr as soon as the office opened.  They tested his oxygen levels and they said he was doing ok and that we should continue treatment with the baby as usual but to bring him back the following morning. We were also prescribed oral steroids (which he would throw up repeatedly at home:-( ).  We also did a breathing treatment while at the office … my poor sick baby …

We brought Trey back to the dr. on Saturday as promised. He was then diagnosed with a double ear infection!  Rather than give the baby more oral meds which he would just throw up, we chose to do injections.  Three shots in a row. His Saturday and Sunday shot were uneventful and his ears were clearing up nicely.

On Monday, Cory went back to work, and I brought Trey in for his third and final shot.  He sounded very congested so the dr wanted to retest his oxygen levels.  Unfortunately, they were low.  We did a breathing treatment and retested his levels.  They were still low so the dr. decided it was time to admit my baby boy to the hospital …. my heart shattered into a million pieces.  Cory raced home from work and we met at his parents before heading to ORMC to admit my lil babe. He was promptly given an IV tube, a security bracelet on his ankle and a mini hospital gown.

Trey's oxygen levels continued to stay low after stronger breathing treatments, so he had to be fitted with oxygen tubes.  Everything that happened completely destroyed me.  I found it hard to even hold him because I felt responsible for everything that was happening and I wish I could take all his pain away.

My little man resting after a long day of treatments …  Seeing my son like this was one of the saddest moments of my life.

The one nice thing about living in Orange County is that we had plenty of visitors to help cheer us up.   My mom's best friend Lori is actually a respiratory therapist at the hospital so she would come in and give him treatments his first day.  On days she wasn't working she still stopped by.  My brother works in the hospital so he made several appearances as did his wife (and her dog Bear!!). It was great spending time with us.  We had a lot of laughs with them which was SO needed.  Cory's parents were also great about visiting us (and bringing us food/pillows/blankets, etc.) and we even got a visit from Cory's Aunt and Cousin.  My mom and sister were also constant phone companions.  I needed all of them so much as I was a total uncontrollable crying mess.

After two VERY long days and nights in the hospital we were told the good news that we were going to go home!!  By 1 all of Trey's tubes were disconnected and we patiently waited for his discharge papers.  By 2 we were OUT !!

Trey is still not 100% but we are starting to see his old self more and more.  Today he was smiling, laughing and crawling like mad.  Love that baby boy so much.  Very happy to have him (and all our friends and family!!).
